The Housing Maintenance Section undertakes repairs and maintenance work on tenanted and empty Council properties, The Section is made up of teams of repairs and maintenance professionals and is backed up by a small number of sub contract partners.

The Council are generally responsible for structural repairs to Council property, for repairs to any installations or fixtures in your Council home for heating, water and sanitation including kitchen and bathroom fixtures and fittings or any repairs where they may be a risk to health or safety.

Where the damage has been caused by the resident they may be asked to pay for the repairs.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Clean and Tidy Council Properties – How you can help us during repairs visits.

The Council encourage all tenants to look after their properties, keeping them clean, tidy and clear of rubbish.  A particular plea is being made for tenants to ensure that their properties are tidy when operatives are visiting your property to carry out work.

Please try to ensure that your property is tidied up, so that the room and route to the area of work is as clear as possible. Please also ensure that pets and children are kept out of the way as best as possible, this will enable the work to be carried out much quicker and more safely.

Regular cleaning and checking around your home can help prevent serious problems happening. Please refer to the Housing Services Repairs Handbook for more details of how you can help us provide an effective repairs service. A copy of the handbook can be found by following this link.
